HP hands commercial style short introducing Team Asia Pacific! Challenge 1 @ Engine RoomChallenge Details Time Given: 2.5days Budget: $0 Challenge: To create a short 30seconds promo introducing our team to the world, in the style of the HP hands commercials This was the first challenge in the Engine Room, and was ALOT of fun. First when i heard about the challenge i was shocked that we have to do all of that in less than 3 days! Our concept is to have all four hands of the four team memebers to be on screen at all times intereacting with the elements on screen, showing that we are not individuels but a team and we work together towards the one common goal. Challenge 4 : Trash & Treasure |

Stopmotion Animation of the after-life of e-wastes! Challenge 4 @ Engine RoomChallenge Details Time Given: 3.5days Budget: $200 Challenge: To create a stopmotion short film up to 1min long about the afterlife of E-waste. Jay was the only person in our team that had Stopmotion experience, so this was definitely his game. Day 1 we had $200 to go to this recycling warehouse kinda place that sold all sorts of junk, and that we had to use at least one item which we bought from there in our finished film. Day 2 we all went to the art supply store and bought a bunch of tools and tones of CLAY as we will mostly be animating clay since it's more re-constructable than metal junk. However because of the amount of clay we had, i was really worried about steering off the guidlines, since it's all about electronic wastes, so we had to actually use the cables and make some cellphones tvs and such from clay. As the concept, it was greatly changed since the original idea which i actually preffered. Originally we were going to have the e-waste dropping from a hole and the rabbit keeps grabbing them and piling on top of eachother, and the audience would think maybe he was creating art from the waste. However eventually it piles up so high and he pushes the tower of junk to the hole and use that to climb to the top so he could punch the people that keeps tossing down e-waste. LOL But Jay came up with this completely different idea because he made a rabbit and carrot, and it all initated from them. And that gave us our final story, which i think could be still confusing to the audience, especially with the seen done in 3D with lots of robots and bins. Basically the idea is that in the after life of e-waste, the waste gets tossed into these individual bins where a rabbit is kept. And there is a hanging carrot hanging on top of the bin, so the rabbit piles up the e-waste to try make a tower to reach that carrot. However as he about to crab it a Big HAND punches him and he faints, so he never gets the food and that's why the rabbits work so fast and keep wanting to work. And the tower of e-waste is taken out of the bin and used to form a part of the robot. So the trash (e-wastes) becomes the treasure (robot parts). Did that sound really confusing? Don't worry truth is we just wanted to have fun :P I personally really enjoyed it, because i was the one storyboarded the whole sequence so i was directing all the shots, using depth of fields etc, was alot of fun working with the team! Challenge 6 : Time Travel |

The "Impossible Challenge 6" : Time Travel @ Engine RoomChallenge Details Time Given: 4.5days Budget: $200 Challenge: There is no rules or guidelines! So after a while of brain storming, Jono came up with the idea of doing a short film featuring a mixture of different small clips about the "SENSATION" of time travel. What time travel would look like, sound like and feel like. So that after seeing the film, the audience would hv felt what it is like to time travel. Rather than going for a straightforward storyline like most shorts, we wanted to try something unique, something different and out of the ordinary. So this whole film is more of an experimental piece of work that focused on the emotions and feelings of audience rather than making perfect sense. Also that because we created this whole film through a "time traveller's poind of view", it's all about how he felt when he time travelled. That is why the first shot of the psychiatrist asking the time traveller "So what does it feel like when you do it?" (and yes we KNOW it could sound really really wrong but hey Jono came up with that line! hahaha) We thought that time travel will not be an easy ride, sometimes it may feel like you're flying or zooming through space, going through a wormhole...it will be bumpy and uneasy. Also because it IS through a person's thoughts, and we all know that thoughts flies through our mind one after the other randomly, sometimes the other one jumps in so quickly interrupts the other so we edited the film like that too, even sounds that cuts off abruptly. And some scenes we had to show that when you mess around with space or time freaky/unnatrual events may occur (like the tank of water with no 2sides of walls, weird shapes in the sky etc. Scenes of freezing time, aging human from child to teen, to adult and elder, even a future city in darkness with the matrix-like creature falling from the sky. Credits Jaehyuck Lee: Music & Sound EFX, life action, after efx editing Jonathan Yuen: Doctor and Time Traveling animation, screaming scenes, life action and final editing and compositing Mujia Liao: 2D animations of flying sequences, Aging sequence from boy to man, Opened pupil and Time frozen girl falling scene Santosh Sailesh Gunaseelan: 3D effects, water tank secene, dark city with matrix-like creature fallen from sky sequence |
